Employment Opportunity: Fire Watch/Hole Watch/Utility Site Personnel (Memphis, TN)

Advance Tank and Construction is a construction company that works throughout the continental United States.  We build large capacity, steel erected, storage products from the ground up.  We are looking for fire watch/hole watch/utility site personnel at our jobsite in Memphis, TN. We are interested in those who are experienced, hardworking, and know how to work safely.

PAY RANGE

$20.00 to $23.00

The pay range is dependent on the person’s experience and capabilities. Benefits includes: paid vacation, sick leave, 401k with company match, health and dental insurance. This is an employment at will position.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be able to perform all duties safely.
  • Must be able to pass appropriate training on fire watch or hole watch, or have experience working in this capacity.
  • Must be able to read and write in English in order to assist in forms preparation for tank entry.
  • Must be able to pass a post hire physical verifying ability to perform essential functions of job and a drug screen whenever required by Advance Tank or its customers.
  • Must be medically capable of wearing and using a respirator when necessary, as determined by a pulmonary function test.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES & TASKS

  • Must be able to perform all duties safely.
  • Ability to stay alert and vigilant for long periods of time, survey area of control for release of flammable liquids, vapors or potential fire hazards.
  • After training, watch a hot work site and monitor potential fire hazards.
  • Should fire occur, grab firefighting equipment and use it to put fire out, this means you must be able to carry and operate said equipment with approximate weight of 20-30 pounds.
  • Must be capable of climbing a vertical ladder and using tools of the trade at that height, such as fall protection equipment.
  • After training, learn to take air samples in the immediate area of the hot work in order to determine if flammable vapors reside.
  • Prepare written reports regarding duties as necessary.
  • Must be able to develop a non-verbal signal system with the worker or workers which are being watched.

NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND TASKS:

  • Assist with other duties on site, such as assisting with site clean-up, moving weld leads out of way of welding sparks or trip hazards, or other site maintenance as asked by site superintendent.
  • Be able to drive a company van from work site to parking lot or to lunchroom with van load of other employees.

SCHEDULE:

  • The work is scheduled for Monday through Friday, often ten hours a day.  However, often the customer dictates the working hours, so may need to work hours prescribed by the customer.  Furthermore, overtime is required in this job.

WORK CONDITIONS:

  • Worker is on feet or sitting all day, and work is done outside in all weather conditions.  Worker will be required to wear a hardhat, safety glasses, and ear plugs at all times, and fall protection equipment when climbing over 6 feet, or respirator when required by customer or work. Should work require wearing a respirator, worker will need to be clean-shaven.
